IMPORTANT NOTES:

• 23andMe raw data files downloaded prior to April 1, 2010 are known to have some incorrect results. The current version will automatically detect and filter out the inaccurate markers but this may exclude relevant markers and reduce accuracy. Please use a current data file for best results.
• Please upload only your Mitochondrial DNA raw data file. Uploading the complete raw data file will work, but waste a lot of time and bandwidth.
• Upload the txt data file. The zip file will not work.
• If your computer is unable to open zip files, try installing 7-zip.

Brief directions for 23andMe users:

OLD 23andMe:

1. Log into your 23andMe account.
2. In the upper right corner click on your profile name and then select the "Browse Raw Data" option.
3. On the "Browse Raw Data" screen at the upper right click on the "Download" link.
4. Enter your password and secret answer.
5. Select which profile to download data for.
6. IMPORTANT: Select data set "Mitochondrial DNA." (All DNA file will work but take a long time!)
7. Click "Download Data" button.
8. Save the zip file somewhere on your computer.
9. Open the zip file and extract the txt file inside.
10. Click on the "Browse" button on the mthap page and select the txt file. (The zip file will not work.)
11. Click on "Upload."

NEW 23andMe:

1. Log into your 23andMe account.
2. In the upper middle of the screen click "Tools" and then in the lower right click on the "Browse Raw Data" link.
3. On the "Browse Raw Data" screen at the upper right click on the "Download Raw Data" link.
4. IMPORTANT: Select data set "Mitochondrial DNA." (All DNA file will work but take a long time!)
5. Enter your password.
6. Click "Download Raw Data" button.
7. Save the zip file somewhere on your computer.
8. Open the zip file and extract the txt file inside.
9. Click on the "Browse" button on the mthap page and select the txt file. (The zip file will not work.)
10. Click on "Upload."
